Rules & Classes

-

For information on getting started in each class please go to the Classes Info page for further information.

It is worth noting that these are the final rules. It is further worth noting that to be eligible for the Red Bull Rookies Cup prize, you must be between 13 and 16 years old at the time of the relevant Red Bull Rookies Cup trials being offered in this series. Lastly, anybody caught breaking the series rules will immediately lose eligibility for all and any prizes. All final say on appeals on this subject will lie with the MRRDA committee.

Supplementary Regulations and Entry form

2008 supplementary Regulations will be posted shortly.

Entry fees
Although this is yet to be finalized, we are working on $300.  This is based on the relative club covering its costs and an entry list of 120 riders.  As the MRRDA is covering the Programs, Trophies and Permits through it’s sponsorship, it does mean that we can keep the costs a little lower than the normal club meeting.  We expect the entry fee will cover the 2 day meeting and a garage spot.  This may vary slightly from track to track.
Registered riding numbers
You can register your riding number for the 2008 MRRDA series, go the the number registration page to secure your number today. Check the list of reserved numbers to ensure you prefered number is available.
Rebates
We are still finalising the budgets for 2008, but expect to be able to offer a border reabte of some form . When we have this finalised we will post it here on the website.
Television coverage
There has been a lot of talk about us getting TV coverage.  It is 100% correct that we have spoken with Fox Sports and they have offered to help us big time.  However we still need to come up with substantial financial support to enable the project to go ahead.  With the help from the boys at BikeMe.TV we filmed round 1 at Oran Park in 2007. We are using this to try and help us gain the support we need to get TV for 2008
Transport
We are talking to a Transport Partner withe the aim of least assisting the VIC's to get to QLD and the QLD's to get to VIC. If it is possible we hope to get transport available for each round from all states. Negotiations are still underway for 2008.
Red Bull
We will have the Red Bull Arch over either the pit entry or the pit exit.  The position of it will depend on its most logical and visible spot.  We will have Red Bull the drink for all participants and officials given out by the fantastic Red Bull Wiings team. (yes that is the correct spelling).  We will have a Red Bull Leaders helmet for the leader of the Junior series.  One lucky Junior will be invited to attend the trials in Europe.  The Junior and a guardian will have airfares and accommodation paid for and will be guaranteed a spot in the trials.  If for any reason the trials do not go ahead, Red Bull will find an alternate method of rewarding the Junior.  It should be made clear that the statement of an alternate prize is put in purely as a safeguard against unforeseen circumstances that would prevent the 2008 Red Bull Rookies Cup trials going ahead.

Juniors (Age Classification)

A Junior is anyone who is betwen 13 and 15 years old at the 1st of January in that year. So for 2008, if on 1st January 2008 you are 15 years old, you can classify as a junior for the entire year.

When you turn 16 however you have a choice of either retaining Junior status for the rest of the year OR switching to a senior license. Noting that only those with a Junior license are allowed to compete in the Junior class in the MRRDA.

It should be noted that the winner of the Red Bull prize in the MRRDA must be between the ages of 13 and 16 at the date of the trials.  So if the trial is held on November 1st 2008, the 2008 winner must have their 17th birthday AFTER November 1st 2008 to be eligible.
Juniors Points (Marketability, Attitude, Character and Skill)

With the CBR150 Junior Class there will be points awarded as normal for on track performance.  This will entail the usual 25 points for first, 20 for second all the way down to 1 point for twentieth.  These points will be awarded in each of the 3 races on the Sunday.  In addition 1 point will be awarded for the fastest qualifier (Pole Position) at each round. This will determine the winner of the class.

However there will be a further 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points awarded to riders in the class that are judged to have the “MAC factor”.  These points will be added to the on track points.  MAC stands for Marketability, Attitude and Character.

In the professional world of road racing these are attributes that are important to teams and sponsors alike.  In fact these are things that are taken into account at the Red Bull Rookies Cup trials.  So it is important that we encourage the appropriate behaviour in this class.  In this way we will have a Red Bull prize winner and a class winner.  If the fastest rider also has marketability, character and the right attitude, then there is every chance that the one rider will be both the class winner and the prize winner.  However if the on track winner has a bad attitude, it is possible that they may not even make it into the top 5.

The additional points will be decided by a panel of 2 judges who will be present at every round. Although this decision may be seen as some to be contentious, it does promote real world activities and give the winner of the Red Bull prize a real chance of progressing through the trials to the Red Bull Rookies Cup.

For 2008, the selection of the winner of the Red Bull prize will be made by a panel. The top 5 combined MAC and on track point scorers will be invited to attend training camps throughout the year. The final training camp of the year will host 5 riders of which any one can win the prize, based on how they perform over the training weekend.

What will the judges be looking for? Here's an indication;

  • How well does the rider present themselves around the pits?
  • How easy is the rider to talk too?
  • How well does the rider present his or her team sponsors?
  • Would they want the rider representing their company?
  • How well does the rider interact with his/her peers?
  • How well does the rider handle the racing environment?
  • How approachable is the rider?
  • Has the rider got a bit of character?

Juniors (Honda CBR150 Control Bike)

The Junior class will be restricted to the Honda CBR150 only. The bike must have been originally supplied by Honda Australia and clearly show the proof of such.

The bikes that come from Honda Australia are ready to race. Allowing bikes to enter that have not originated from Honda opens the doors for an array of cheating that will not be tolerated.

Unless there are exceptional circumstances those found breaking the rules (ie cheating) will be excluded from further participation in the series for that year.  We repeat if it doesn’t originate from Honda Australia, it will not be allowed to compete.

Allowed modifications

The only things that you can change is the jetting, the front sprocket and the rear sprocket. You are also allowed to replace clip on handlebars and rearsets that must be fitted to the original mounting points and will allow a more racing style position. Finally you can use Braided brake lines and reduce the side stand bracket to within 1 cm of the frame.

Tyre warmers are allowed for 2008. Tyres must be standard sized treaded tyres, that is: A front treaded tyre with the size of 80/90-17 or 90/80-17 and a rear treaded tyre with the size of 100/80-17. Tyres must be made for teh purpose, so no Front tyres on the rear and vice versa.

As far as suspension goes you will be allowed to change fork oil and make adjustments via the mechanisms supplied on the original equipment only. The bike specs in the full rules will not differ from this.

Number Boards
Number boards must be dark green with white numbers. Number plate sizes will be as senior riders. (Rule 12.6)

Engines

Engines must retain the original bore size. No overboring is allowed.(Rule 15.19.1.1)
