There are a few essentials that you need to check before you can go racing.
- There is a category for the bike you want to race
- You have a helmet in good condition with a valid Australian Approved sticker on it
- You have leathers in good condition without any wear holes.
- You have gloves in good condition without any wear holes
- You have boots in good condition without any wear holes
- You have a suitable back protector
- You have an up to date race license
- Your bike meets the specifiactions for the cateory you want to race in.
- You have lock wired all the required points - sump bolt, oil filter, brake caliper mounting bolts, water drainage bolts, radiator cap, oil filler cap, check the MA sports manual for others.
- You only have water in your radiator - no coolant
- Your belly pan is capable of holding the required amount of fluid.
- You have a toe guard under your swing arm that will prevent your foot getting caught between the chain and the sprocket.
- You have appropriate engine case protectors.
- You should also check the Motorcycling Australia manual of motorcycle sport for any other GCR's (General Competition Rules) that are relevant to the class that you are racing in. If you are racing in the MRRDA you will find the rules that are relevant on the appropriate page under the classes option on the menu bar above. You should still check the MA manual though, which you can find on line at www.ma.org.au.
We would also recommend that you speak to someone else who is already racing in the class you want to race in. If you dont know anyone, drop the class rep a line via email (you can find their contact details on the contact page of this website) and they will do what they can to help you.
To enter a race meeting you can usually find an entry form on line. At the MRRDA you will find it under the forms page accessed via the menu option above. The 3 clubs listed all have entry forms on line. If in doubt call the club or promoter and ask where to get the form from. Be aware that you will probably have to book a garage spot as well. It is also worth checking to see if there is a practice day on before the race. At the MRRDA we always run the Saturday as practice and qualifying. Sometimes the track may put on a "private pactice" which is one run by the track. Check with the club, promoter or track.
