MRRDA to Host 2009 Australian 250GP Championship

The MRRDA Series is to again host the Australian 250GP Championship at the picturesque Phillip Island Circuit on 3-4 October 2009 and we invite all eligible riders and bikes to enter this event.

The MRRDA approached Motorcycling Australia (MA) earlier this year to conduct this event and recently this was agreed.  This will be a "one-off" Australian Championship round for the class at the final round of the Series.  The Championship will be decided over 3 races on the Sunday with practice and qualifying to be held on the Saturday.

The MRRDA Series Chairman, Paul Edwards said "This class has been an important stepping stone for many Australians racing overseas.  Many current overseas racers that have cut their teeth in the class including Casey Stoner, Anthony West, Russell Holland and Shaun Geronomi just to name a few. It is worth noting that there must be a minimum number of riders for it to be declared an Aussie Championship, so we hope to see racers taking this opportunity"

Paul added "This is great shot in the arm and the faith MA has in the Series as a place to develop young racing talent in a nurturing environment.  It's also appropriate that we have an Australian Championship this year as this will be the last year that there will be a 250GP world champion"

The weekend promises to provide fantastic racing for all classes as this is the final round of the Series and many competitors will be looking towards their final places.  The ever popular 400 Tri-State will see all States looking to take out the team trophy, the 125GP & 250Mono riders securing their positions and the ultra competitive Junior classes vying for the ultimate Red Bull prize."
