Juniors - 4 stroke

The age group for this class is 13-15 years old. You must be at least 13 years old before you can start to compete here, but as long as you are 15 on January 1st you can continue to compete. At 14 you can get a senior endorsement on your junior license that will enable you to run in both the Juniors and the 125GP / 250GPMono classes. It is worth noting that you can start to practice for the Juniors class at 12yrs and 9 months old.

Juniors wanting to get their first race license must join a club and then do the mandatory 5 hours "Kickstart" program before they can apply for a license. Keep an eye on the MRRDA website for info on "come and try" / rider training days.

The 4 stroke Junior class for 2009 will include the Honda CBR150 and the Yamaha R15. Both bikes are 150cc single cylinder 4 strokes.  Both bikes have approximately the same power and will be on par handling wise. Eligibile bikes will be listed here and must have been origninally supplied from the manufacturers Australian dealer network.

The rules for each of the bikes is that they must remain standard. The engine, chasis, electrics and fuel systems (including air boxes) must remain OEM and unmodified. You may change the handlebars to clip ons providing they are mounted at the same point as the original bars and you may change to rear sets as long as they also mount at the same point as the original pegs. Brake lines may be changed to braided lines. Everything else must remain standard.

Tyres must be treaded tyres and of the same size as recommended by the manufacturer.

At each race Juniors are judged on their Marketability, Attitude and Character by a panel of judges. These are referred to as "MAC" points. The top 5 will be given 5 points down to 1 point to add to their on track points. In this manner we encourage good behaviour at the track and those that approach the sport in a professional way. This is important if the riders are to go on to make a living from the sport. After the first round, the leader of the series on combined track and MAC points will be given the Red Bull leader's helmet to wear at that round. At the end of the year, the rider with the most combined MAC and track points will be awared the Red Bull prize of a trip to Europe to the final trials of the Red Bull Rookies cup.
