Formula 400

Affordable, "State of Origin" passion and so much fun

This class is all about fun. If you just want to go racing with plenty of "Banter", then this is the class for you. Throuhgout the field, the racing is close and as good as you'll get anywwhere. For young riders its a great place to learn to ride a 4 stroke multi cylinder bike, for the not so young, well it's all about enjoyment.

The Formula 400 class is unique in that there is a state versus state battle going on in the "State of Orgin" competition as well as the individual riders series.

This class is open to all senior (over 15yrs old) riders and consistently provides the biggest grids in Australia. With up to 80 bikes turning up to race, the grid is often split into 2 full grids by sheer necessity. Qualifying determining which races you end up competing in.

The bikes are all 400cc road bikes of either 2 or 4 cyclinders. Tyres are open, so you can use slicks and wets if you like. The rules for the individual and State of Origin series can be downloaded from the link below as well as the specifications for the bikes.

One of the keys to the class is the affordability. Bikes can range from between $4000 and $10,000 depending on the development on the bike and the spares that come with it. If you crash, its rarely expensive and can often be patched up at the track with the help of the other competitors and go again.

The inclusion of the twins for 2009 will see some interesting battles in amongst the pack.  Suzuki SV400's, Ducati 400 monsters...it's going to be interesting.

State of Origin

The battle has raged now for 4 years between New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. In year 1 the Queenslanders looked like they were going to be a force to be reckoned with, but alas they seem to have reduced in numbers to just a handful of riders. The battle between the "VIC's and the "Blues" however has continued to be strong and passionate. In the first year, the VIC's took home the trophy by only a handful of points. In year 2 the Blues returned the favour. Years 3 and 4 have seen the same sequence with the VIC's then the Blues all by a mere handful of points. When you consider that over 12,000 points are available and 2008 was the biggest win by the Blues of only a couple of hundred points and the smallest win has been by only 15 points, you can see that the competition is close and exciting.

For 2009 the 400's wil be split into 2 classes.  The Formula 400 Stock and the Forumla 400 Pro.  The Formula 400 Stock rules  are there for people who want to run in a 400cc competition and keep the costs down.  The Formula 400 Pro class has less restrictions and is there for people who like to "tinker" and for whom keepng the costs down is less of an issue.  Due to the late changes in the rules, we will not be too hard on them for the first couple of meetings.  It should be noted that these rules are now the combined efforts of both VIC and NSW representatives.
