Even the most talented riders have recieved coaching or training from someone at some time. Caey Stoner developed under the watchful eye of one Terry Paviell who has been the MRRDA series coach for some time. If you are a Junior then it is essential for you to undergo the MA Kickstart program as part of getting your license. However seniors should not under estimate the need for training.
The Motorcycling Australia Kickstart program is essential for all Juniors. There is a set maximum fee of $50 for the training that is required to run for a minimum period of 5 hours. This involves theory as well a practical with the coaches taking the particpants through a number of very basic skills. We run a number of “come and try”/rider training days which are usually free and take Juniors through this process so they can get a license. We do this with the aid of the California Superbike School. You should check the training page on this website accessed via the menu bar above for the next dates. Your club and other training schools may also run the kickstart program. You should check wiht your club to see if they are aware of any dates.
The California Superbike School also run a number of their world famous trainng days around the country. They are highly recommended and we have seen Juniors make huge improvements in just one day under the guidence of the Schools coaches.
The Junior program within the MRRDA looks at the overall package required to progress in the sport. this includes the ability for the rider to present themsleves in manner that befits attaining sponsorship and becoming a professional sports person. We provide guidance on how to speak on TV as well as present yourself at the track. We can and do also provide guideance on how to go about getting sponsorship. As Darryl Beattie recently stated “I wish I’d had my media experience before I went racing. I would have been much better placed as professional rider.”
There is no official requirement for seniors to get training before they go racing. However it is recommended that you should do at least one California Superbike School before you set out. You will be amazed how much you can learn.
