125GP info

It's all about the corners

Racing a 125 pg bike is an amazing experience. Their awesome lean angles and mad corner speeds will take you breath away. Though their small capacity engines mean that much bigger Motorcycles will pass them down long straights very few Motorcycles if any can match their cornering and braking ability's. The major difference between a 125gp bike and all other classes is that a 125 is designed to do one thing RACE ! A 125gp is not a road bike, never was never will be, it's a PURE RACE BRED machine. It is also arguably accepted as the best path for the young and talented looking to develop the skills for a career in motogp. The best example of this is Valentino Rossi who was a world 125 gp champion on the road to his 250 and Motogp titles.

While the 125gp is seen as a young up and coming racers bike there is also a dedicated group of “Mature age” riders who appreciate the unique handling qualities and relatively inexpensive racing offered by 125s. There is a senior series for over 45 y/o racers that is well attended by these enthusiastic “Veterans” and they enjoy close racing amongst themselves at other club events.

125s are not as heavy on tyres as bigger bikes which is a major cost in road racing and though you do have to pop the head off now and again to change pistons and rings there are no cam chains so it's no big deal once shown how and there are excellent people in the class to help new riders. The other main area of concern to new and prospective 125 owners is jetting. There is a simple easy to use jetting program available from Mark Wilkinson racing which makes jet selection very simple and straight forward.
